A good electrical yacht design is really important. You might ask why? Well for many reasons, and safety is the most important one.
Good electrical yacht design, what is it about?
Even though we are not physically building our boat, there is a lot of work we have done to come this far.
This is because there is lots of electrical equipment on a modern yacht. VHF, AIS, GPS, radio, Autopilot, sensors for wind- and , boatspeed, depht, rudderangle, digital switching controllers, switchpanels, communication network, touch screens, 4G, satelite receipt, switch, wifi-router, electrical engine, diesel generator, battery systems, battery management systems, keel hydraulics, DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverter, solar panels, MPPT controllers, bowthruser, anchor winch, lighting, boiler, diesel air heater, induction stove, watermaker, fuses, relais …. and more. So, just a lot of stuff.
So, what to choose and from which brand? We had plenty of time to decide, and we took it.
Details
But at the end, there was still some hurry and items to consider. For instance the Inputs and Outputs of the digital switching system and the layout of the button panel.
Down to the smallest detail, like marine grade wiring, a good electrical yacht design is really important.
Key-product
It makes senso to have most electrical equipment from one brand to avoid intermediate communication problems. But fact is that there is no manufacturer which has it all the best. We favoured an NKE autopilot, C-Zone digital switching and Raymarine VHF. Engineer Julien Auburg from JPK had better experience with Empirbus digital switching so we followed him. Empirbus is part of Garmin and so, the digital switching was the key to move from Raymarine as main supplier towards Garmin. Garmin has autopilots as well, but we believed the NKE autopilot is the best for wide stern and fast planing yachts. We expect it to be our best helmsman.

So much hardware. Does this fit in? Well, in an earlier stage, on another JPK39-FC, we did a mock-up test with Julien Auburg, electrical engineer of the JPK-Team. So yes, we think so, but we will see.
