During our home voyage from Lorient to Den Helder, we were graced with the presence of dolphins on a daily basis as we navigated the picturesque coastal waters of France and the south coast of England.
It was truly awe-inspiring to witness these majestic creatures, in their natural habitat, an experience that enriched our journey and left us feeling connected to the vast, interconnected ecosystem of the ocean. Amazing to see dolphins on a daily basis. Was it because we were just sailing, or when required, electric motoring? Meaning there was no annoying sound of a combustion engine?
Although we encountered various forms of marine life along our route, we were grateful not to cross paths with Orcas. A sailing yacht had reported an Orca attack near Brest just a week before our passage, adding an element of caution to our excitement as we sailed these waters.
Thankfully, the dolphins provided a sense of comfort and companionship throughout the initial week of our journey. Their playful antics and spirited leaps alongside our vessel as we traversed the British Channel Islands created indelible memories that will remain etched in our hearts and minds. Even at night, these remarkable creatures accompanied us, providing solace and reassurance amidst the vast, dark waters.
Our voyage from Lorient to Den Helder was made all the more special by the presence of these incredible marine mammals, highlighting the interconnectedness between humans and nature and reminding us of the beauty and fragility of the world beneath the waves.
